Our commitment to nonviolence
The Tour de Planet has set itself the goal of advocating for climate justice and global peace.
Along the way, countless people will meet in a wide variety of situations. This may not always be without conflict.
As members of this journey, the people joining TdP take a clear position against racism and anti-Semitism and stand for peaceful action by mutual agreement.
Non-violence is an absolute priority for the TdP. Therefore we are looking for other, non-violent ways of dealing with conflicts.
Non-violence means for us:
Examine our own interpersonal, social and global relationships and mechanisms and to reduce violence, here especially violence in connection with conflicts between the participants of the TdP among themselves as well as with others and to search for non-violent solutions.
Solve possible conflicts with the police non-violent.
Become aware of our own way of dealing with conflicts.
Refrain from the use of violence in disputes and when dealing with other people.
Even in the case of being threatened or in the case of violence used against us by third parties, we do not want to respond with counter-violence.
The parties in a conflict
are primarily responsible for resolving the conflict. But they can look for support from third parties. Preventively, we can work on the acquisition of competencies in advance (empathic listening, perseverance, sensitivity, non-violent communication, mediation). Start right now! See links below.
are recommended to be set up for support! Their task is to help us to avoid conflicts or to accompany and support a non-violent conflict resolution with the help of one or more persons.
is a non-violent response to a law for reasons of conscience. This disobedience is often prosecuted with sanctions. Civil disobedience can take many forms - demonstrations, vigils, street music and theatre and human chains, sit-in blockades, squatting and flash mobs. Even in the case of civil disobedience we consider non-violence to be indispensable. Here, too, we practise renouncing violence and counter-violence and use non-violent means in the event of conflicts - especially in possible encounters with state bodies such as the police.
Civil disobedience must be announced without fail in order to preserve the dignity of the parties involved and, above all, of the other party in the conflict.
We see conflicts as an incentive to personally deal with the topic of non-violence and to help shape a non-violent change in society.
